Ribbed & dotted condoms in Ireland
Ribbed & dotted condoms are condoms with a raised texture on the surface, designed to add friction during penetration. To choose, look at which texture they have (dots, ribs or both), then the material and whether they include a warming, cooling or delay effect.

What are ribbed & dotted condoms?
They are condoms with small raised textures on the surface: dots, ribs (rings or ridges) or a combination of both. The texture increases friction during penetration; some people notice it a lot and others hardly at all, so it is worth trying more than one model. Otherwise they are used like any other condom: when put on correctly, they reduce the risk of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. If you are after the opposite, a thin condom with no texture, have a look at the sensitive condoms.
Types of ribbed & dotted condoms
On this page you will find models from Pasante (Ribs & Dots Intensity, Passion, Ribbed Passion and one ribbed warming option), Control (Sensual Xtra Dots, with 264 dots per condom according to its product page; Touch & Feel, Non Stop and Hot Passion, with a warming effect), Durex (Dame Placer, Intense Orgasmic with a cooling effect and Climax Mutuo, which has 5% benzocaine on the inside), Manix (Xtra Pleasure and Excitation Max), Skins Dots & Ribs, EXS Ribbed & Dotted and RFSU Näkken, with dots. The two SKYN Intense Feel condoms are latex-free, made of polyisoprene.
- With dots: small rounded bumps spread across the condom.
- With ribs: raised rings or ridges along the length of the condom.
- With dots and ribs: both textures on the same condom, the most common type in this category.
- With added effect: besides the texture, a lubricant with a warming or cooling sensation, or benzocaine to delay ejaculation, as in delay condoms.
How to choose
- Texture: the product page says whether it has dots, ribs or both; if you have never used a textured condom, start with a small box.
- Material: most are made of latex; if you or your partner have an allergy, look for a synthetic material such as polyisoprene or go to latex-free condoms.
- Width: check the nominal width in millimetres; it should fit snugly without being tight. Among the product pages that state it, the Pasante Ribbed Passion measures 52 mm, the Control Non Stop 53 and the Durex Dame Placer 56.
- Effect: warming, cooling or delay effects are given in the name or on the product page; if you do not want them, choose one that only has texture.
Frequently asked questions
Do ribbed & dotted condoms offer protection?
Yes. They are condoms and, when used correctly, they reduce the risk of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. Check the expiry date and that the wrapper is intact before opening it.
Which lubricant can I use with them?
One that is water-based or silicone-based. With latex condoms, avoid oils, including massage oils, because they damage latex.
Can you really feel the dots and ribs?
It depends on the person. The texture adds friction, but the sensation changes with the type of texture and the amount of lubricant, which is why it is worth trying more than one model.
Are there latex-free ribbed & dotted condoms?
Yes: the two SKYN Intense Feel condoms, made of polyisoprene (the manufacturer calls it Sensopreno), with a texture of waves and dots. The rest are made of latex or do not state the material; if the product page does not give the material, do not assume it is latex-free. You will find more plain options in latex-free condoms.
